Product Protection 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Before sharing my idea with anyone I would like to protect myself and product. My idea does not deal with new technology, but more how that technology is put together and used. Is there anything like a concept patent that I can get in order to start looking into getting this idea marketed? Please advise.

Thank you for your time and attention on this matter.

Did I do this right? Can you read this?
Guess I am going to go and start doing my own research on the matter cause no one seems interested in answering this question.

Hello Patrick,

It's important to protect yourself. I suggest you look into getting a PPA (Provisional Patent Application). It's only $105, you can file it yourself and a PPA let's you say Patent Pending for one year.

But first, you need to do some research and figure out which manufacturers you could license this idea to. Always do your research before filing for any sort of protection.

The information you gather will not only help you figure out if you want to move forward with the project, but will also help you file better protection _base_d on what you have learned.

Keep Inventing,

Thank you for your advise. I look forward to contributing to your site in way of ideas and possibly, eventually, articles.

Would you suggest getting the provisional before entering the contest on your site? Or are ideas put on your site protected already?

PLEASE HELP!!! 4 Months ago
Hi,

I am new to this forum. I have an invention that I have submitted to an invention promotional company, Patent Assistance Worldwide.Signed a confidentiality agreement. Have not paid them any money but have told me that my idea is a good one, solves problems, and is very interested by their partners.

Is this a scam? They are telling me that it would be in tradeshows by the end of the year and not to go for a provisional patent but go for a real one. Also, said to expect legal forms in the mail from a patented attorney. And they are investing over $4,000 dollars for the market research, product development, advertising, website, registered patent attorney, technical drawings, prototype etc. My cost is $1297.00

If this is a scam, could someone tell me how I can get my product patented safely. Have done a patent search and so far, no one has thought of my design or concept of my product.

Thank you and any help you give would be appreciated!

Re:PLEASE HELP!!! 4 Months ago
It was suggested to me by the operator of this site that a provisional Patent is a good idea, protecting yourself and your ideas first seems logical. And the ppa protects you for one year (or allows you to say patent pending for one year). Which should give you time to get all the details ironed out.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

Have you heard about this Inventor's Consultant website Patent Assistance Worldwide? Also, has anyone tried the WalMart Inventors Program or WIN?

Always have a patent agent or attorney assist you with any patent application....even the USPTO website will tell you this...

Your patent may be the foundation of your product business so do it right and seek some professional advice. I agree with Stephen that provision patents are indeed a good idea. With a provisional, you document your invention and have one year in which to file a non-provisional. They are also a lot less expensive....which is helpful to new inventors.
