TOPIC: The SeaSaver

The SeaSaver 7 Months ago
Hi, I would like your valued opinion on my invention. The SeaSaver is a detachable boat top that can be used as a multi-person floatation device in an emergency. You can watch a short demo at YouTube.com just type "seasaver" in the search window. Thank you

Maniac,
First, thanks for using the forum. I wanted to let you know that Andrew & Stephen are here to answer questions. So if you have specific questions related to developing your product, ask those here. Unfortunately, since they are busy individuals, I doubt they'll have time to review each & every invention that comes their way. I hope that clears things up! Happy inventing!

Re:The SeaSaver 7 Months ago
Thank you for taking the time to look at my invention. I have been working with this invention fo the last 10 years. I started with the idea. I developed a set of drawings. I made a prototype. I tested it in the water. It worked perfectly.
I have a patent on it. I even got it Coast Guard approved. I have a web site on the net called "The SeaSaver". About a month ago I got a call from a company in Alaska that saw it on my web site. They were very interested in my product. They had over 500 fishing boats that they were thinking the SeaSaver could have been retrofitted. They lost interest because of the cost of shipping it there. My question is: What do I need to do to sell one of these boat tops?

Hello Maniac,

I guess the question i have for you is how big is the market for such a device? If the market is large then licensing the product to a manufacturer that has better distribution and connections than you might be a good option for you. If the market is very small, then making it on your own might be a better route to go.

It really depends on your skill set and what you like to do. It's more about what you are interested in doing than just whats right for your product.

You could make these yourself, but if you don't have strong sales skills and cash flow to manufacture the product, you wont' be so successful.

If you like to come up with ideas and then sell them to a manufacturer that can make it happen, then licensing might be a better route.

Keep Inventing,

Please don't take this the wrong way, it's not meant to belittle and disrespect your product idea in any way, but, your website for this particular product is just down-right lame!

To begin with, you really should seriously consider purchasing a more professional appearing template for the website . Adding clearer - more professional - photos and video would greatly approve the professionalism of your site and product. The overall appearance is just completely unprofessional! Looks like your neighbor's 13-year-old may have designed it! Even your YouTube video isn't available on your own website...Why is that? The 'Details" _link_ doesn't even work!?

Considering the fact that your website is your online sales rep. representing your product.....

Re:The SeaSaver 5 Months ago
That's cold. We can all do things better; it's a bit more constructive when someone doesn't use words like "lame" and "unprofessional" and least provides specific resources for taking care concerns raised.

Like: SeaSaver, the reason why your movie does not play on your website is because it references your local drive and not it's hosted/public location.

Rather than fixing this, you will be better off going to your movie on YouTube and using the code provided under your profile and movie details (it's "_embed_" and you can customize it, but basically you will copy and paste over the top of where you are now calling your movie)

This is how I have a video at the bottom of my page

Re:The SeaSaver 5 Months ago
Thank you for the kind words, but the post was basically right. The SeaSaver website needs to be redone, I mean replaced. The website looks and even feels childlike. The web designer used notepad to make it. You can't get much simplier than that. I also have pages that go nowhere. I just kind of let myself go I guess. I should probably get an award for the worst website on the net. If I were looking for a floatation device / boat top, which I don't think there are to many people that are, I wouldn't but one from this website. I mean if this person runs and maintains this website like this I would wonder how well their product is build. It's a real mess. I guess I hoped for so much and all I got was disappointment after disappointment. So many people talk, but so little action. I may have been knock down but I'm getting back up with a better understanding of how things need to work. Thanks for the post.

Maniac,

When you face obstacles, you have to figure out how to get over them or go around them. When we launched the first version of IdeaTango, it was pretty crappy too. But over the last few years, and many lessons learned along the way, we're now very happy with our website. It just takes dedication and a willingness to learn from your mistakes.

Re:The SeaSaver 4 Months, 4 Weeks ago
Dude! Man it sounds like someone has gotten you down and put the boots to you. I was having an "issue" with the language and approach of that one reply; you could have the worst, dead-end site in the world, but in a site where the people with ideas exchange and share things, my expectation is for someone to at least use a little tact and provide a lot of help ... just saying you're lame is totally pointless without knowing who is saying it and them giving something to make it better.

Otherwise it's just an opinion and a waste of time for me (and others) to read ... the idea of "community" is so that we can all live and learn together.

Getting back to you, and it is about you and your product; there is nothing wrong with using notepad to create your site (if anything it is very geek-worthy to just use a text editor; so long as it's not "fail" result) and if you want I can/will personally edit your pages to fix the video and dead _link_s ... it's not rocket science; but none of this addresses what you originally posted (and what I really can't speak too).

I don't visit here often (like that's a shame to ya!~) and I really try to always be nice to people in public, but it really bothers me to come back a week later and read your down draft on "life" ... Bryan is right about getting past what's getting you down (you can also ignore some things as an option to dealing; choose not to deal with a part of something if it's not going to kill you for the time).

Anyway, again I don't hang out here, but if you want I can fix what's wrong with your site for free (it's easy) just send me an email ... I think this "topic" is for licensing and perhaps you should pursue that option (and in any case it's not the right spot for me to be rambling on).

So get back up and get getting on ... you got no choice!

Just keeping it real!

Like I stated at the very beginning of my post...

"Please don't take this the wrong way, it's not meant to belittle and disrespect your product idea in any way"....I was merely bringing needed attention to the product's website and its issues.

Tiger Taco wrote: "...it's a bit more constructive when someone doesn't use words like "lame" and "unprofessional".

I completely understand where you're coming from here, but, sometimes the "Just keeping it real" thing can be extremely unpopular, maybe even painful. It can also be enlightening at the very same time!

Didn't say I hated the product, just the website!
