I have an idea for an invention. Not so much one particular item but for a process created by existing items that could be applied to almost every facet of our everyday lives. It could not only save people money but also our natural resources as it is a very "green"idea. It could kill our dependency on oil. I could build a prototype but don't want to share my idea unless I know it is protected. I don't know where to start and am not sure how a patent or other would apply. I have been "kicking" this idea around for a long time but think that now is the time to do something. I even think,well a friend said to me, that big companies might even pay to keep it quiet. In the right hands it could be a billion dollar idea but i am not interested in that as much as i would love to just see it come to light.

You must first perform a patent search and I suggest using a patent agent or attorney to do so and since your product is an "idea" or "process" it would be wise to consult a professional to check the patent status. If it is shown that you are not infringing on someone' else's idea, then you can begin to think about how you can proceed. Energy alternatives are a hot topic so just be prepared for lots of varied opinions about the viability of your project....

Basically it involves taking parts from different existing technology's and combining them in such a fashion so that instead of say 15 -20 % efficency it would be more like 90% and highly renewable. I have no idea what it would be called I just know how to build it and I have since figured out maybe 100 different ways to modify that to work in many other things and ways. I never set out to come up with this it is actually a side effect to something else I was doing which really wasn't even close. I think that the only people that would have a complaint are the ones providing(ripping us off) on the different energys that we use to live everyday. I have been searching the web and haven't turned up anything even remotely close. I think that it is such a valuable idea that I am having serious trouble trusting that someone else wouldn't steal it. The average citizen would be have the biggest gain from it and people like me that are mechanically inclined and understand how things work could really make thier own in the future and modify it to their needs specifically.
