Areas of Practice:

Chris Gekas concentrates his practice primarily on the preparation and trial, before federal and state courts and administrative agencies, of cases in a wide variety of substantive areas, including securities, commodities, options, derivatives, investment fraud, employment and other types of discrimination, accountant and lawyer professional liability, intellectual property, commercial disputes of all kinds, ERISA, bank fraud, class actions, lender liability, truth in lending and other credit disputes, defamation, slander and libel, breach of contract, fiduciary responsibility, serious or catastrophic personal injury, and real estate.

He is rated "AV" by the Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings.

He has significant experience in alternate dispute resolution, mediation and arbitration.

Mr. Gekas represents plaintiffs and defendants. His clientele includes individuals and large, mid-size and small businesses.

Mr. Gekas has tried over sixty jury trials to verdict, and has handled many more contested non-jury evidentiary hearings and trials before federal, state and administrative judges. His extensive investigative experience is a substantial asset in the preparation and trial of his cases.

Mr. Gekas has extensive appellate experience. He has briefed and argued over forty appeals in federal and state appellate courts across the country. His most notable victory was in Walters v. Metropolitan Educational Enterprises, Inc., 519 U.S. 202 (1997), in which the U.S. Supreme Court determined the jurisdiction reach of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Gekas also counsels clients on a variety of business matters, including business, real estate and other types of contract negotiations and pre-and post employment negotiations for senior and other high level executives and employees.

Bar Memberships:

Mr. Gekas is a member of the Bars of Illinois, Virginia, the District of Columbia and Arizona. He has been admitted to practice before the United States Circuit Courts of Appeal for the Fourth, Sixth, Seventh, Ninth, Eleventh and District of Columbia Circuits. He is admitted to the Bar and Trial Bar of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He has been admitted pro hac vice in other United States District Courts throughout the country, including the Northern District of California, the Middle District of Florida, the Northern District of Georgia, the District of Minnesota, the District of Nevada, the Southern District of New York, the Southern District of Texas, the Eastern District of Wisconsin, and the Western District of Kentucky.


He has been a member of the Bar of the United States Supreme Court since 1974.
