How do you like the idea of having a website of your own? Wouldn’t it be great? Many people are leery of the idea because they think it is too complicated. It is not really that difficult, and you do not have to be a geek to have a website of your own. The only things you have to do are follow some simple steps:
Steps for creating a website 1) Obtaining a Domain Name 2) Choosing the right Web Host 3) Creating the Website
1) Obtaining a Domain Name: A domain name is your address on the web. It can be of any length up to 63 characters. You need to follow these guidelines in designing a domain name: a) It should be short and sweet. b) It should be relevant to your business. c) Contact a good Web hosting company or domain registrar such as 1and1, GoDaddy, or DomaininSeconds. This will let you check the availability of your preferred domain names. Some of them may offer name variations if the name you have chosen aren’t available.
2) Choosing the right Web Host: It is very important to have the right Web Host, because it is the web host which stores the website created by you on its server and places it on the internet. There are some points to be remembered in choosing the right web host. These include: a) Ensure that the web host has good support staff and can fix your problems promptly b) Do not choose a web host company that lacks emergency and/or 24 hour service phone numbers c) After choosing a web host, check out the plans offered by them and chose the one that works best for you d) The more complicated your web site and the more traffic it has, the more important the hosting provider will be.
3) Creating the Website: For this you require software help. Yahoo has an easy to use SiteBuilder program, as does GoDaddy with WebsiteTonight. You can get software from the web host or from another vendor. The steps that you should follow when creating your website are: a) Do not use text which would make the website appear cluttered. Use simple text and good pictures. b) Do not use shocking colors or bizarre fonts. Use simple and commonly used fonts like Arial, Times New Roman, etc. Choose the font and use it throughout the website. Do not use a variety of fonts. c) Do not use loud music in your website. It might startle visitors coming to your site. d) Do not use too many graphics because although it might make your website look good, it takes too much time to load for many visitors. e) The content of the website should be such that the visitors can immediately recognize the purpose of the website. f) Pop-ups will upset some visitors so try to avoid them.
These are some basic steps for creating your own website.
